Wednesday – The Day of Traditions in a City

Day of Traditions in a City. On Wednesday the excursion to the county seat Brno was on programme. At first, it looked like we would miss our train (the bus connection left us little time to get on our train). At the end we managed to be there on time thanks to energizer called “Catch your train or stay in Břeclav forever”; which was simply unforgettable.

We arrived to Brno as planned. First of all we visited St. Peter and Paul´s cathedral and we were delighted by the view from one of its two towers. A visit of Capuchin tomb followed after a small snack. Those who had guts, and surprisingly most of us had, could see well-kept bodies of monks from the Capuchin friary.
One of the most important parts of the excursion to Brno was to find out what the people from Brno knew about traditions and what relation they had to them. Thus, participants made a public inquiry in the streets of Brno, using questionnaires they had prepared the day before.

Then we divided into three groups according to how we wanted to spend our free time. The first group went sightseeing and they visited the most important landmarks of Brno and thanks to the knowledge of one of our leaders - Michal - we learned about their interesting history. The second group went shopping to Vaňkovka Gallery and the third visited famous beer hall Pegas. We ate our dinner in pleasant atmosphere of cellar Restaurant císaře Leopolda.

Den tradicí na velkém městě. Ve středu čekala účastníky exkurze do krajského města Jihomoravského kraje – do Brna. Ač to zprvu vypadalo, že nám ujede vlak (autobusové spojení bylo opravdu na knap), nakonec vše dobře dopadlo – i díky energizeru „Chyť svůj vlak, nebo zůstaň v Břeclavi“, na který asi nikdo nezapomene – a do Brna jsme přijeli podle plánu.

Nejdříve jsme navštívili katedrálu sv. Petra a Pavla a pokochali se i výhledem z jedné z jejich dvou věží. Po malém občerstvení následovala prohlídka kapucínské hrobky, kde ti z nás, kteří byli silnější povahy – a těch byla oproti původnímu očekávání většina – zhlédli dobře zachovaná těla mnichů řádu kapucínů. Hlavním úkolem výletu bylo zjistit, co vědí obyvatelé velkého města o tradicích a jaký k nim mají vztah. Účastníci tedy vyrazili do brněnských ulic s dotazníky, které si sami předešlý den připravili.

Poté jsme se rozdělili do skupin podle toho, jak kdo chtěl strávit volný čas, který zbýval do večeře. Jedna skupina si prošla nejvýznamnější památky Brna a díky znalostem vedoucího Michala byla poučena o jejich zajímavé historii, druhá šla nakupovat do Galerie Vaňkovky a třetí navštívila pivnici Pegas. Večeře na nás čekala v útulném prostředí sklepního Restaurantu císaře Leopolda.
